Newcomer Youth Connections for Success

March 25, 2026

On March 25, 2026, the YRES team had the opportunity to participate in a JVS Summer Camp Information Session through the Newcomer Youth Connections for Success program. The session was a great opportunity to connect with high school students who are beginning to explore employment options and think about their future goals.

  • Filipe Brag

  • Adam Yusufzai

  • Gabrielle Caluyo

These three team members spoke with youth about summer job opportunities and the value of gaining meaningful work experience through camp roles — sharing insights that went well beyond the job listing itself.

Building Skills Through Summer Camp Work

Throughout the presentation, attendees learned how summer camp jobs can help young people build important workplace skills. The discussion also highlighted how these experiences support personal growth while helping students prepare for future careers.

Roles and Opportunities at YRES

During the session, the YRES team introduced the different types of positions available, including both camp-based roles and office opportunities. This gave students a broader understanding of the ways they can get involved and contribute based on their interests and strengths.

In addition to sharing information about the roles themselves, the team provided practical advice on resume-building, the hiring process, and how students can present themselves well during interviews.

To make the presentation more engaging, the team shared photos, activities, and testimonials from YRES March Break Camp. These examples helped attendees get a better sense of what working in a camp environment can look like — and how rewarding it can be. It also showed students how camp jobs go beyond employment, offering meaningful opportunities to learn, grow, and make a positive impact on others.

A Meaningful Connection with Youth

Overall, the JVS Summer Camp Information Session was a valuable experience for the YRES team. It allowed us to connect with youth, answer questions about summer employment, and share the benefits of working in a supportive and dynamic environment.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to take part in this session and look forward to continuing to support youth as they build skills, gain experience, and explore new opportunities through YRES programs." — The YRES Team
