YRES Summer Camp Workshops 2026 July 31, 2026By: Angelina, Community Service Worker

On July 31, 2026, YRES Summer Camp held a Glow-In-The-Dark Dance Workshop at Franklin Street Public School. Everyone had the opportunity to take a break from the summer heat to experience an hour filled with dancing, glow sticks, and plenty of chances to let their creativity shine. From glowing stickmen to creating original dance moves, participants were encouraged to step outside their comfort zones and have fun with dance in a completely new way.

One of the main highlights of the workshop was the big reveal of the dancing, glowing stickmen! Dressed in glowing outfits that lit up the room, our two new friends brought an extra dose of excitement and fun to the workshop. They also added plenty of humour by attempting to copy the movements of the MCs. Completely unfamiliar with how real humans dance, the stickmen watched the people around them and mimicked their every move. Throughout the workshop, they slowly learned how to dance along with the campers. Their silly and unexpected attempts had everyone laughing as they discovered their own unique way to groove!

The fun didn't stop there in the next activity, participants had the chance to become choreographers themselves. Within their classes, dancers worked together to come up with their own movements, experimented with different steps, and created unique dance combinations. Each camper had the opportunity to contribute their own dance move, ultimately coming together as a team to create a unique routine. This activity encouraged everyone to express themselves and showed that there is no single "right" way to dance. Whether they wanted to create something funny, energetic, dramatic, or completely unexpected, the dancers had the freedom to express themselves in any way of their choosing.

At the end of the activity, each group had the opportunity to teach their dances to the stickmen, and campers were able to dance alongside their glowing friends. The campers had a blast performing their unique group dances, and it was amazing to see everyone's personalities come through in their choreography. The teamwork and energy demonstrated by all the groups was truly amazing, and it was wonderful to see everyone supporting and encouraging one another.

Of course, no dance workshop would be complete without Freeze Dance! Using their newfound dance skills, the stickmen led the activity and demonstrated the new moves they learned from everyone’s choreographies. Participants danced, jumped, and moved around the room whenever the music played, but as soon as the music stopped, dancers had to freeze exactly in the position they were in. Campers danced to songs such as the Hokey Pokey, Whip & Nae Nae, Gangnam style, and more, all while trying their best to stay perfectly still during pauses in the music. It was also a great way to encourage dancers to listen carefully, react quickly, and most importantly, have fun! With glowing dancers filling the room, every freeze became a fun and hilarious snapshot of movement.

Our glow-in-the-dark dance workshop was a chance for campers to be creative, try something new, and enjoy the experience of moving together. From the glowing stickmen, the original choreography, and the excitement of Freeze Dance, every activity brought something special to the experience. Most importantly, the workshop reminded us that dance is all about having fun, being yourself, and letting your creativity shine. With a little glow-in-the-dark magic, the experience became even more memorable!

We thank everyone for their energy and participation that made this workshop possible, and we can't wait to see where the next dance adventure takes us. Until then, keep dancing, keep creating, and keep glowing! ✨
